Munnar-Thekkady-Kumarakom-Alleppey
India
Soft green hills, fragrant spice plantations, shimmering lakes and tranquil backwaters make Kerala one of India’s most refreshing travel experiences. This private Kerala tour is crafted for travellers seeking scenic beauty, comfort and slow-paced exploration across the state’s most iconic destinations. Every region brings its own charm — from the misty slopes of Munnar to the wildlife landscapes of Thekkady, followed by the serene waterways of Kumarakom and the magical houseboat stay in Alleppey.
The itinerary blends leisure, nature and authentic cultural encounters, allowing you to enjoy Kerala’s warm hospitality while travelling comfortably with your dedicated driver. Whether it’s walking through tea gardens, spotting wildlife, tasting Kerala spices or drifting along palm-lined canals, this week-long journey offers a perfect combination of hillside retreats and backwater bliss.
Arrive at Kochi Airport, where your private driver welcomes you before beginning the scenic ascent into the Western Ghats. As you travel toward Munnar, the landscape gradually transforms into rolling hills, tea estates and cool mountain air. Check in at your hill resort and unwind amid peaceful surroundings.
Later, take a relaxed stroll through nearby viewpoints or simply enjoy the pleasant climate. The evening brings opportunities for quiet leisure, allowing you to acclimatise and settle into Kerala’s gentle pace.
A full day is dedicated to soaking in the charm of Munnar, Kerala’s celebrated hill station. Begin with a visit to Eravikulam National Park (closed during breeding season), home to the endangered Nilgiri Tahr. Continue toward Mattupetty Dam, Echo Point and the lush tea gardens that define the region’s beauty.
In the afternoon, explore a traditional tea museum to understand plantation history and processing techniques. The scenic views stretching across emerald-green slopes make this day perfect for photography, walks and enjoying fresh mountain air.
After breakfast, drive toward Thekkady, a landscape shaped by spice plantations and forested hills. Upon arrival, check in at your nature lodge and take time to absorb the atmosphere of this serene region.
Later, explore spice gardens to learn about Kerala’s famous cardamom, pepper and clove cultivation. Optional activities include a cultural show, nature walk, or a boat ride on Periyar Lake—an excellent opportunity to spot wildlife along the water’s edge.
Begin your descent toward the calm waters of Kumarakom, one of Kerala’s most enchanting backwater regions. The drive brings changing scenery as you leave the highlands and approach tranquil lagoons and canals. Check in at your lakeside resort and enjoy the peaceful environment.
Spend the rest of the day relaxing by the lake, watching slow-moving boats and passing birdlife. Kumarakom is ideal for unwinding, spa experiences, and sipping fresh coconut water while soaking in quiet waterfront views.
Today marks a highlight of your Kerala journey as you board your private Alleppey Houseboat. Settle into your comfortable floating cottage before drifting through the narrow canals and vast backwater stretches lined with coconut palms and traditional homes.
Your onboard chef prepares freshly cooked Kerala meals while you enjoy uninterrupted views of rural life along the water. As the boat anchors for the night, the stillness of the backwaters and the soft glow of the evening sky create a memorable retreat.
After a peaceful morning on the houseboat, check out and drive back to Kochi, a city known for its colonial architecture, harbourside charm and cultural heritage. Visit highlights such as Fort Kochi, Chinese Fishing Nets, and St. Francis Church, depending on your schedule.
The remainder of the day can be spent enjoying cafés, boutique shops, art galleries and the relaxed ambience of this historic port city. Evening at leisure.
Your 7-day Kerala hills and backwaters tour concludes with a transfer to Kochi Airport. Carry home the calmness of Kerala’s mountains, forests and waterways—each destination contributing to a beautifully balanced travel experience.
