Itinerary

Your tour begins at Bangalore Airport, where you meet your private driver and begin the scenic journey toward Nagarhole National Park. As the urban landscape fades, the environment gradually shifts into countryside fields, small villages and stretches of forested land. Upon reaching your jungle lodge, you are welcomed with refreshing views and the sound of nature surrounding the retreat. After check-in, spend some time relaxing in your cottage, enjoying the quiet forest ambience and settling into the pace of your wilderness tour.

In the evening, stroll around the lodge’s nature trails to familiarise yourself with the surroundings. Many properties offer open decks overlooking forest edges, allowing opportunities to spot deer, birds and sometimes even elephants wandering nearby. The first night offers a gentle introduction to the wildlife atmosphere of Karnataka, preparing you for the adventures ahead.

Begin your morning with a thrilling safari inside Nagarhole National Park, known for its healthy tiger population, elephant herds and diverse birdlife. The early hours allow you to witness animals during their most active time, moving through sunlit clearings and dense bamboo groves. The safari takes you through varying landscapes — dry deciduous forests, riverbanks and open grasslands — each offering unique wildlife sightings.

Return to the lodge for breakfast and relaxation before setting out again for your evening safari. As the forest cools down, animals begin to emerge once more, increasing your chances of spotting predators, reptiles and vibrant bird species. The experience of observing the forest in changing light enhances your understanding of how wildlife behaviour shifts throughout the day.

After breakfast, begin your short but scenic transfer to Kabini, one of South India’s most celebrated wildlife destinations. The transition between the parks brings views of farmlands, forest corridors and occasional wildlife crossings, setting the tone for your stay. Upon arrival at your riverside lodge, settle into your accommodation and appreciate the peaceful setting overlooking the Kabini River.

In the afternoon, relax by the water or enjoy optional activities such as guided nature walks. The Kabini region is known for its calm backwaters that attract large elephant herds, and evenings here often feature spectacular views of wildlife approaching the riverbanks. This serene environment offers a perfect balance of comfort, nature and anticipation for next day’s safari.

Start your day with an early morning jeep safari through the Kabini zone of Nagarhole Tiger Reserve. The region is famous for sightings of elephants, leopards and sometimes the elusive black panther. The crisp morning air, combined with the sounds of the forest waking up, creates a deeply immersive safari experience. Your guide navigates through tracks where wildlife movement is highest, offering valuable insights into behaviour and habitat patterns.

After lunch and leisure time at the lodge, head out again for an evening jungle safari or a boat safari depending on availability. The fading golden light reflects beautifully against the Kabini River, highlighting flocks of birds returning to their nests and animals gathering near the water. The dual safari experience offers a well-rounded perspective of Kabini’s thriving wildlife ecosystem.

Leave Kabini behind and travel toward Bandipur National Park, a key stretch of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. The journey meanders through forest corridors where spontaneous sightings of deer, peacocks and even elephants are common. Upon reaching your Bandipur lodge, check in and rest amid natural surroundings that echo with forest calls and gentle breezes.

Spend the afternoon enjoying the rustic charm of your eco-stay or take a short guided nature walk. The lodge’s serene environment allows you to unwind before your upcoming wildlife activities. Bandipur’s landscape differs from Kabini’s riverine terrain, offering a distinct combination of dry forests, open meadows and rolling hills.

Your morning begins with an exciting jeep safari inside Bandipur National Park, known for tigers, elephants, gaurs, deer species and diverse birdlife. The forest guides navigate through rocky paths, bushy clearings and dry woodland areas that offer excellent opportunities for wildlife observation. The changing colours of the forest at sunrise create an unforgettable visual backdrop.

Return to the lodge for a relaxed afternoon before embarking on the evening safari. At dusk, animals often move closer to water holes and clearings, increasing the likelihood of spotting predators or elephant herds heading toward the forest’s deeper zones. These safaris highlight Bandipur’s dynamic wildlife activity across different times of day.

After breakfast, drive toward Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary, located at the junction of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The short journey offers striking views of forest belts and occasional wildlife activity along the route. Once you arrive at your Mudumalai lodge, check in and enjoy the peaceful woodland atmosphere surrounding the property.

Spend the afternoon exploring the area or relaxing on your balcony with views of forested landscapes. Mudumalai is known for elephant corridors, birdwatching opportunities and an environment that feels truly raw and untouched. Tomorrow’s safari will take you deeper into this biodiverse haven.

Begin your morning with a drive into Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary, where bamboo thickets, tall grasses and dense wooded patches create a habitat rich in biodiversity. As sunlight filters through the canopy, the forest comes alive with bird calls and movement along the underbrush.

Mudumalai is known for elephants, spotted deer, langurs and large herds of gaurs, and with patience, you may even encounter predators resting near shaded areas or water bodies. The safari route takes you through narrow jungle tracks where every turn reveals a fresh scene of wild beauty.

Return to your lodge for breakfast and some leisure time. In the afternoon, explore the surroundings through guided nature trails or spend time appreciating the sights and sounds from your resort’s open spaces. Many travellers enjoy watching bird activity around the property, as Mudumalai lies along important migratory paths. The slow, peaceful rhythm of the forest enhances your connection to nature and prepares you for tomorrow’s transition into Kerala’s spice-covered hills.

After breakfast, leave Mudumalai behind and begin the scenic journey toward Thekkady, a region known for its spice plantations, rolling hills and the famed Periyar wildlife zone. As you drive through winding mountain roads, the landscape gradually shifts from dry forests to lush plantations filled with pepper vines, cardamom groves and clove trees. On arrival, check in at your nature resort and spend some time unwinding amid fresh mountain air and greenery.

In the afternoon, visit a spice plantation to learn about cultivation techniques and the history of Kerala’s spice trade. Walk between fragrant plants while guides explain the harvesting and processing stages. The day’s experiences blend natural beauty with cultural insight, introducing you to a region that has shaped Kerala’s identity for centuries.

Your morning may include optional activities such as a guided nature walk inside the Periyar Tiger Reserve, where trained forest guides lead you through quiet forest paths. These treks offer opportunities to observe animal tracks, learn about native flora and encounter gentle wildlife movement. If preferred, a bamboo rafting experience can be arranged, allowing you to glide across a peaceful lake surrounded by forested mountains.

Spend the afternoon at leisure or explore local markets known for spices, handmade soaps, natural oils and regional snacks. The blend of forest activities and cultural elements makes Thekkady an engaging destination for travellers seeking both gentle adventure and relaxation. Evenings are usually quiet, filled with the soothing sounds of the surrounding hills.

After breakfast, begin your drive toward Kumarakom, a lakeside paradise known for its tranquil views and birdlife. As you descend from the hills, the air becomes warmer and waterways begin appearing along the roadside. Upon arrival, check in at your lakeside resort and enjoy the refreshing change in scenery — from dense forests to calm backwaters framed by swaying palms.

Spend the afternoon relaxing by the lake or exploring nearby walking paths. Kumarakom’s soothing ambience encourages slow travel, offering space to rest, reflect and reconnect with nature. Optional activities include birdwatching or a gentle sunset cruise arranged by your resort, both of which highlight the peaceful rhythm of Kerala’s backwater region.

Your final morning in Kumarakom allows time for one last stroll along the waterfront or a quiet cup of tea overlooking the lake. After checkout, begin your drive to Kochi Airport, enjoying the scenic countryside views along the route. The journey through forests, plantations, hillsides and lakesides adds a beautiful last touch to your tour.

Upon reaching the airport, your 12-day Karnataka–Kerala wildlife and nature journey comes to an end. The safaris, nature trails, riverside stays and serene backwater experiences leave you with a strong connection to South India’s diverse landscapes and rich ecological heritage.
